Bridion
Bridion (sugammadex) is a selective relaxant binding agent (SRBA) that reverses the muscle-relaxing effects of rocuronium and vecuronium, which are two neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs).
Chemically, Bridion is a modified gamma-cyclodextrin that consists of a hollow, cylindrical ring of sugar molecules. This ring structure enables Bridion to fit closely around rocuronium and vecuronium and this makes these NMBAs unable to exert their effects upon the muscles and renders them inactive. When Bridion does this, the effects of these two NMBAs are said to be reversed.
Bridion is approved for the routine reversal of the muscle-relaxing effects of rocuronium and vecuronium, and for the immediate reversal of neuromuscular blockade due to rocuronium in adults. It is also approved for the routine reversal of rocuronium’s effects in children and adolescents (aged 2–17 years).
